About Morten Christensen

I’m Morten Christensen — Dutch, born in Nijmegen, living in Mexico, and in crypto since 2013, when I bought my first Bitcoin at $44. I founded AirdropAlert.com, the world’s first crypto airdrop aggregator, and I’ve traded, farmed, and written my way through four full market cycles. Before crypto, I spent six years as a professional poker player. Before poker, I was a karate champion. Along the way I’ve visited 75 countries across all seven continents — Antarctica included — and I still run the occasional marathon to keep the head clear between trades.
Before crypto: cards, kicks, and kilometers
Poker was my first real education in markets. From 2011 to 2017 I played professionally, logging more than five million hands. That’s five million small decisions about expected value, position sizing, variance, and tilt control — the exact skill set that later transferred to trading crypto. Karate came earlier, and it taught the other half: discipline, repetition, and showing up when you don’t feel like it. Marathon running is where that habit lives today.
The travel came from both. Poker and crypto are laptop professions, and I used that freedom properly: 75 countries and counting, from conference stages in Asia and Europe to the ice in Antarctica.

Four cycles in crypto
2013–2016: the early days
I bought my first Bitcoin at $44 while living in a poker house, then went down the rabbit hole — mining Litecoin and Dogecoin, lending BTC to margin traders on Poloniex, and claiming some of the earliest airdrops, including Stellar Lumens in 2016.
2017–2019: the ICO era
In June 2017 I founded AirdropAlert in Chiang Mai, the first platform dedicated to crypto airdrops. We ran the earliest ICO airdrop campaigns and commissioned one of the first mass airdrop smart contracts on Ethereum. When the bubble popped, I stayed — publishing and speaking through the bear market while most of the industry disappeared.

2020–2023: DeFi summer and the NFT wave
I was early into yield farming when DeFi took off, then spent 2021 collecting and flipping CryptoPunks and Bored Apes. I kept publishing daily through 2022 while Luna, Celsius, and FTX collapsed around the industry — and held ICO bags to zero in an earlier bear taught me never to ride conviction all the way down again.
2024–today: the professional era
Airdrop farming grew up — points programs, testnets, on-chain reputation — and so did my approach. I now run delta-neutral strategies that capture airdrops, funding, and yield while staying market-neutral, alongside DeFi positions and a hedged trading book. That approach is also what put me at both of President Trump’s memecoin dinners for a fraction of what other attendees paid, which is a story the financial press enjoyed telling more than once.
Surviving four cycles isn’t about calling tops. It’s about position sizing, hedging, and staying in the game — poker lessons, applied to a market that never closes.
Writing and media
I’ve published more than 1,000 articles on airdrops, DeFi, and trading — you can find all of them on my author page at AirdropAlert, from beginner wallet setup guides to a 29-part trading fundamentals series.
That work has led to 200+ media mentions, including Bloomberg (20+ times), The Wall Street Journal, two live CNN appearances, The New York Times, Forbes, Politico, and New York Magazine, plus citations in academic research from RMIT University and the University of Miami. The full record — coverage, interviews, quotes, and press kit — lives on the AirdropAlert press page.

Today
I split my time between running AirdropAlert, trading, and family life in Mexico. I’m available for consultancy on tokenomics and growth, project advisory, media commentary, and speaking — reach me at morten@airdropalert.com or on X @mortpoker.
